Packing/Airport: Process Could Use a Prayer or Two

Ciao,

I am so ecstatic about my trip...My flight is on Alitalia and is leaving Newark on Thursday. It is expected to arrive in Roma (FCO airport) around 8 am. For all who may be reading this, 8 am Italian time would be 2 am your time.

The packing process has been arduous and I fear airport security telling me that my bags are too heavy or too big. I have worked very hard to avoid being reprimanded and/or charged...but, after all, it will be four months. My mom has been a saint during the process. She is so patient and helps so much, especially when I have been just a little high-maintenance.I am saying little prayers that the luggage checking/ security processes go without any complications.

I will enjoy peace of mind once my luggage gets to Europe, particularly where I'll be living in Roma. I'll put it in God's hands...as I have no control over this. As it is, many items I will have to purchase in Rome (for instance, fans for the apartment which is not air conditioned....I do not care, though; I am in Rome). These excursions to local stores (or negozie)should be an adventure. In the meantime, I am making the most of my time before the flight.

Everything has been a whirlwind. I look forward to the challenge, however, and the whirlwind increasing.

Within a couple of hours of arriving in Italy and being dropped off at my apartment, which is a couple of blocks from the Colosseum, I will be taking a cab over to the obelisk at St. Peter's Square in order to meet my internship supervisors at the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. I cannot wait! Everything seems so surreal.

I look forward to keeping you posted. (If there are delays, that will be due to limited internet access available to me).

Buona giornata,
Deb
